Farewell, Ravilious: A Champion Remembered

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the loss of Ravilious, who suffered a fatal leg injury shortly after the finish line at Fairview on 31 July 2026. True to everything he was, he had just produced a courageous run to finish second, beaten only a length and a half at the end of a race he contested with all his customary fire.

Our thoughts are first and foremost with jockey Bavish Soodoo, who was injured in the incident and remains in hospital. Bavish and Ravilious shared a bond that went far beyond a jockey and his mount — it was aboard Ravilious that Bavish recorded his first career win as an apprentice, at Fairview in September 2025, and the pair won together again that November. The entire syndicate is praying for Bavish's recovery.

Ravilious, a son of Global View trained by Jacques Strydom, retires to our memories as a seven-time winner from 43 starts. Fairview was his kingdom — week after week he ran his heart out on the Polytrack, and week after week he gave the syndicate reasons to celebrate.

But the numbers were never the point. Ravilious was the horse who taught so many of our members what it feels like to have your colours in the fight at the top of the straight. He was honest, brave, and utterly relentless, right up to his final stride.
